Passion fills us with a burning desire to create, to manifest, to complete the things that bring us joy. It’s the passion that drives love, allowing us to learn, grow and develop. But what happens when that passion dries up, it no longer fills you with desire because the love has grown cold?
It doesn’t matter if we’re talking about a business venture, romantic partner or in my case writing a novel, the outcome is still the same… boredom, procrastination and maybe a bit of resentment.
The options are set; do you continue onwards swimming against the tide? Or do you bundle all of your hopes and dreams into a boat and let the water carry it off into the distance?
This is where the Power of Perseverance comes in: It’s not easy, and it’s not a golden moment of clarity and joy. This is the part where we graft for what we once believed in, safe in the knowledge that all the effort we’ve put in is worth something valuable.
Yes, maybe changes are needed to bring it into alignment with who you are today, or how your business works in an ever-evolving world. Maybe that novel won’t get published, maybe we accept that in some way we failed.
But all is not lost. Take a long hard look at the journey you’ve been on, see where all of your past experiences have enabled you to grow.
My first novel is something I’m incredibly proud of. Unfortunately, it was not picked up by an agent, and I’m fine with that. Why? Because of how much I learned throughout that process. The same applies to my second and third novels, they offer a glimmer of hope. A stepping stone to where one day I will be, whilst allowing me to improve and become great at my craft.
If I dropped my pen and vowed to never write another word, then nothing would ever be achieved.
Here are some great quotes to keep you motivated and help you on your way:
“When you get into a tight place and everything goes against you, till it seems as though you could not hang on a minute longer, never give up then, for that is just the place and time that the tide will turn.” – Harriet Beecher Stowe.
“Pain is temporary. it may last a minute, an hour, or a day, or a year, but eventually it will subside and something else will take its place. If I quit, however, it lasts forever.” – Lance Armstrong.
Stay strong, keep going and remember… I believe in you!

Until next time, Much Love.
Since my blog is titled, “The Light Breaks Through” my favorite quote based on that theme is: “Darkness cannot drive out darkness: only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate: only love can do that.” ― Martin Luther King Jr., A Testament of Hope: The Essential Writings and Speeches

I almost used that quote in this post. It’s a great quote.

When quitting isn’t an option, the only alternative is to persevere and push ahead. The reward might just be one more push or several. Who knows? The sad result would be stopping one push shy of the breakthrough.
Great inspirational post. Thanks so much for sharing.

This is a fabulous post. There is such value in persistence, even though it can be really tough at times. I’m now pitching my 3rd manuscript and have learned so much along the way, so thank you for sharing part of your journey and your hope. This was excellent and so true. So many of us have had these moments. I had mine last year but when it happened I asked myself what was causing it.
I love to create. I love the people and places that come out of my mind but something was holding me back and I knew it wasn’t desire. Once I addressed it I was back on my journey but I had to stop to clear the debris before I moved on.
Such a great post. Thank you.

That’s an excellent point, sometimes we need to overcome or clear out something that’s blocking us before we can continue.
And that’s all part of the journey.

It does hurt at times, but optimism and having clear goals really help. Thanks Kate. 💕

Perseverance or stubbornness? Both so important to a writer 🙂
I learned if I don’t finish a first draft, I won’t come back to it. Beginnings are easy when I’m flush with a new idea. It’s middles that are hard. I tend to slog through knowing revision will make it better. First, I need something to revise!

I always get a middle slump, I really have to push past that part to make it to the home stretch. That’s where a little stubbornness helps. 😅

Such lovely words, Lorraine! You’re so right — each book really is a stepping stone. Stephen King said it takes 1,000,000 words, and that often means writing more than a few novels lol. Thank you for the motivation!

I found your post really inspiring! I’ve just started writing my book and, even as I write I know it’s truly terrible! Lol! Of course I’ll keep working on it until it isn’t terrible but I’m forcing myself to keep going with the first draft. Thanks for sharing this post. It provided great motivation and perspective. A quote I return to when I want to remind myself to keep going is “Achievement seems to be connected to action. Successful men and women keep moving. They make mistakes but they don’t quit.” – Conrad Hilton. This quote helps me focus more on my actions than my feelings when they threaten to hold me back. Thanks again for sharing!

You’ve got a great attitude. All first drafts are rubbish, that’s what editing is for.
Fantastic quote, I’m going to use that when the dreaded doubt kicks in.
Thank you for commenting 🙏💙

Excellent post. Perseverance is often the difference between a winner and loser, as said by Walt Disney. Another one from I Ching
